Useful at the counter, table and shopfront
QR ideas for your kind of business
Restaurants & cafés
Put a menu code on each table, a guest Wi-Fi code near the counter and a review code on a receipt. Keep a printed menu available for customers who prefer one.
Takeaways
Link packaging to your own ordering page or current menu. Add a review invitation where customers collect their order, and use a short instruction so people know what scanning does.
Butcher shops
Link a counter card to weekly specials, meat packs or cooking advice. Use a permanent specials page and update that page as your offers change.

How to make a QR code in three steps
- Choose the destination. Pick a QR type above. Paste the exact menu, review or website link, or enter your Wi-Fi or contact details. To use a PDF menu, first host it on your website and paste its public link.
- Check the live preview. Pick readable colours and optionally add a small logo. Scan the preview with a phone and check that it opens the right page or details.
- Download and test in place. Download PNG or SVG, or open a printable card. Test the finished print or screen with different phones in your shop’s lighting before displaying it.
Important: this is a static QR code generator. The information is stored in the code itself. You cannot change an encoded destination after printing, but you can update the content at a website address you control. There is no VicDisplays redirect account to renew.

Make your QR code easy to scan
| Where you use it | What helps |
|---|---|
| Tables and counter cards | Use a short heading such as “Scan for our menu”. Start around 30 mm wide for close-up scanning, then test your actual code and print. |
| Digital menu boards | Make the code large enough for the viewing distance. Leave it still long enough to scan, with a plain light background and a clear border. |
| Packaging and receipts | Avoid folds, tiny print, shiny surfaces and curved edges. Check the finished packaging rather than only the digital file. |
| Custom colours and logos | Use a dark foreground, a light background and a small logo. This tool keeps a four-module clear border and uses high error correction, but every design still needs a real scan test. |
| Google reviews | Invite honest feedback consistently. Do not offer rewards, ask only happy customers or hide review requests from unhappy customers. |

Free QR code generator: common questions
Is this QR code generator really free forever?
Yes. VicDisplays offers this static QR tool free to use, with no sign-up, trial countdown or paid download unlock. Codes you download have no built-in expiry or scan limit. Website hosting and any services you link to can still have their own costs.
Will my QR code stop working if I do not pay?
There is no VicDisplays QR subscription to pay. A static code continues to contain the same information. A website code only remains useful while its destination is available, and a Wi-Fi code needs the same network details to remain valid.
Can I change the link after printing the code?
You cannot change information already encoded in a static QR image. If you link to a page you control, you can update that page while keeping its address unchanged. For a different destination, create and print a new code.
Can I add my logo and brand colours?
Yes. Choose a dark QR colour and a lighter background, then add an optional PNG, JPEG or WebP logo. The tool checks colour contrast and keeps the logo small. Download the code and scan-test it on different phones before printing a batch.
How do I create a Google review QR code?
Open your Google Business Profile, choose “Ask for reviews” and copy your review request link. Select Google reviews above and paste that link. Check that scanning reaches your own business. Read our Google Maps visibility guide for more useful steps.
Does the tool upload or save my Wi-Fi password?
The generator creates your code in your browser and does not send its form fields or logo to a QR API. Wi-Fi details are encoded in the downloaded image, so anyone with that image may read them. Use a guest network and never publish a staff or private network password.
Can I track scans or upload my PDF here?
This static tool does not include scan tracking, editable redirect links or PDF hosting. Host your PDF on your own website and use its public link. Your website analytics may record visits to the destination, depending on your setup and visitor consent.
Can businesses outside Melbourne use it?
Yes. Business owners anywhere in Australia or overseas can use the free generator. VicDisplays’ screen installation and local service enquiries focus on Melbourne. Explore our Melbourne business guide or contact us to check your location.
